Yeah I got a Kindle for my birthday and it’s awesome. I have no doubt that I’ve been doing a lot more reading because of the convenience, and am benefiting from the fact that there are hundreds of classics available for free; have already got through The Secret Agent and just embarked on Wuthering Heights (yes, an attempt to do something about the gender bias in my literary knowledge). But paper books are awesome and I don’t think we’ll see them die out. They might become the preserve of small specialist presses producing art books and glorious beautiful editions of novels and special books that authors/artists design specifically for paper.
The sad thing is, bookshops will probably become a lot rarer. Although I’d imagine that most of these “20 most beautiful bookshops” (via the Rumpus) will be among the survivors, because they look awesome!
