So here are some very clever things:

1) Up and Down the Ladder of Abstraction.

This is a really cool set of tools for analysing a problem. It is also about algorithms, which I have always been afraid to ask about for fear of appearing stoopid, but turn out at least at the basic level to be fairly simple: just sets of instructions for completing specific tasks. Although as you read through the essay you realise that in implementation they can be almost limitlessly complicated.

2) How To Read This Morning’s Weather Map.

An article that really does what it says on the tin. Assuming that you, too, did not know the meanings of the lines across the map with the red triangles and the blue semicircles and the combinations thereof, you should find this enlightening and hopefully, as I did, surprisingly entertaining.
