This list of books just keeps on giving. Below you’ll find what it says about the greatest authors. What that means is, the authors whose books do best on the list: for each author I’ve added up the score that each of their books appearing in the top 200 received (hence the “books” column below shows how many of their books appear in the top 200, not how many books they wrote. For an explanation of the scoring, look here). It was a close run thing at the top: Dickens squeaked ahead of Austen by having more books appear, although Pride and Prejudice beat out David Copperfield in the book list. I’m surprised that the highest placed American author (F Scott Fitzgerald) is only at number 8, as the US and UK were close together in the country comparison. I guess the US books were spread out across a larger number of authors.
Anyway, check out the list below and see the top 100 books and everything else I’ve compiled on this here.
|8||F Scott Fitzgerald||2||68|
|16||Gabriel García Márquez||2||54|
|21||Louisa May Alcott||1||49|
