Peter Jackson is unhappy with strike action by New Zealand actors and has decided he won’t make The Hobbit there, despite it providing such an excellent backdrop for The Lord of the Rings. Now, heartbroken Kiwis are rallying to try to persuade the studio to film in their country after all (NB certain amount of confusion re: whether it’s the studio or Peter Jackson that is contemplating filming elsewhere; these two sources seem to differ). I can’t help thinking that the filmmakers are pulling a bit of a Wayne Rooney here, and after a couple of press conferences and a lengthy chat with the New Zealand Prime Minister, they’ll announce that they loved filming there all along and get on with it, with a bit of a smirk and a much healthier bank balance.
