Wow. This sounds like a fantastic Test match. The Aussies must dread facing Laxman by now – I’m pretty sure he made his name by turning an India follow-on into a victory against Australia back when Steve Waugh was captain.

VVS Laxman leads India to dramatic first Test win over Australia | Sport | guardian.co.uk.

Update: Follow-up article focusing on VVS “Very Very Special” Laxman. It was his 281 in 2001 that turned that match around. India-Australia has been the most compelling narrative in world cricket for the past 10 years (2005 Ashes aside). It would be very nice to do a proper comparative thing about the two countries’ cricket cultures and how they’ve produced such outstanding teams in recent years. Great rivalries in sport, eh? How about a list?

Man Utd-Liverpool?

Madrid-Barcelona

… you could get through a lot in football, but there are prob only a few that transcend the sport. Madrid-Barca definitely; Man U-Liverpool probably not. Rangers-Celtic? The sectarian thing gives it a wider relevance.

Anyway, this sounds like another post.

O’Sullivan-Hendry? That World Championship semi final back in, what, 1999? That was special.
